The initiative for the memorial was taken by Eleni Triteou and the SIMAE (Historical Archive of the Board for the Historical Memory of the EOKA 1955-59 struggle) and  was supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The cost was covered by the SIMAE and through a fundraising coordinated by the families of the dead. The unveiling took place on August 27th 2000.
